Where It All Began

It was a beautiful Friday afternoon. The sun streamed through the windows and spilled across the keyboard. “Free Write Friday”—a time when my sixth-grade classmates and I could write whatever we wanted—was here again.

I sat down at the computer station closest to the windows and began to type. All around me, the sound of keys clattered. Engrossed in the moment and basking in the warmth of the sun, my soul took flight as words spilled onto the screen.

A lot of time has passed since then, but I continue to find delight and comfort in expressing myself through words. In fact, my home is filled with them—as wall décor, in countless journals, and on bookshelves packed to capacity.

Interestingly, I never originally “planned” to walk a path that included writing on a public platform. In fact, much of my working life unfolded in the education arena, a field that I was called to and worked in for a decade.

In time, however, I sensed an invitation to pay attention to the breadcrumb trail of my love for words, and I came to recognize that God was gently initiating a shift in my calling.

Towards the end of 2019, this redirection took me into working in content strategy, development, and creation—and, eventually, launching Honey Salted Words.

My What

I’m drawn to the quiet, deep work of becoming.

Or, to say it another way, I’m passionate about intentionally nurturing soul wellness. I’m also very curious about the processes that shape us for the better.

Words, especially, capture my attention because of their ability to influence who we become.

What we believe is often first planted by a word. Whether beautiful or broken, the words we hear, read, and view leave their mark—and their impact is rarely neutral. They either breathe life into us or pull us away from it.

My Why

Nurturing soul wellness is important to me for one simple reason: I want to be someone who’s filled with the love, hope, and faith of Jesus Christ. These are the basic ingredients that make for a truly good and abundant life.

Opposite to what we’re told, this good life doesn’t begin from the outside in, but from the inside out. It is rooted in the careful tending of the soul, which begins with nurturing our life with God.

I need this for my own sake, yes, but also because this vibrancy—this fullness of life—is what I long for. I think it’s safe to assume this is what you most long for too. This is, after all, what every human being was created to walk in.

One honest glance at our world offers yet another compelling reason why nurturing greater measures of love, hope, and faith matters deeply.

And so, tending to who I am becoming is a top priority these days.

Perhaps it is for you too.

This Brings Me to My Who—The Thoughtful Soul Still Reading This

If you’ve read this far, here’s what I know is true about you…

  • You long for conversational depth and meaning. You enjoy reading words that flow like a song—lyrical, yet grounded. Words that leave you feeling connected to what is true and what truly matters.

  • You care deeply about who you are becoming, and you desire to be the light and love of God at the hour we find ourselves in. You seek to live this out:

    • By nurturing a vibrant relationship with God—Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.

    • By ordering and arranging your days to remain as connected to this life-source as possible.

    • By discerning and walking out the unique, specific life-path God has for you.

  • You’re not okay with Jesus’ promise of fullness of life (John 10:10) just being a theory. You want to experience him in your everyday life—not just on Sundays. You’re seeking to live into that fullness in your actual, ordinary, daily life.

  • You’re intentional. You understand there is a relentless tug-of-war for your attention, so you seek to steward it well because you know that what you give your attention to shapes who you become.

  • You treasure both the written Word of God and the Living Word. Perhaps one has been emphasized more than the other along your spiritual journey, but you long to hold them together.

  • Finally, you’re eager to know God in his fullness as Father, Son, and Spirit.

And to that I say, amen! I don’t take lightly the privilege of supporting you as you tend your life with God, and I celebrate that you’re here. Let’s journey on together, friend.
